The Royal Garden

The four-fold garden at Pasargadae (300 x 250 m) is the oldest of its kind and the prototype of all subsequent gardens, in particular, those in the royal city of Isfahan and Mughal India. The garden was irrigated with a series of stone water channels complemented by stone basins hewn out one block over 1 m square. On either side of the garden, there existed two pavilions serving as a place for resting and viewing the lovely environment of the garden. The royal compound with the palaces was organised around the garden.
